WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item Level Upgrade level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item upgrader kit level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item level upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item level upgrade upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
