The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning robot mop and vacuum maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and Best Robot Hoover detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana.
